ARISE SOUTH AFRICA
February Edition
Let’s Make A Change Together.
A note from our President Dagada;
The G20 Summit, which will culminate in a Leaders' Summit in November 2025, is themed around "Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability." South Africa's presidency aims to prioritize Africa's development, focusing on inclusive economic growth, food security, and innovation for sustainable development. President Cyril Ramaphosa has emphasized the importance of this summit in addressing global crises, including climate change and inequality. However, one notable absence is the United States. The U.S. has chosen not to attend the Foreign Ministers Meeting due to recent diplomatic tensions with South Africa, including disagreements over land appropriation laws and international legal actions against Israel. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced he would not attend the G20 Summit, citing "anti-Americanism" and criticizing South Africa's themes of "solidarity, equality, and sustainability," which he equated with DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) and climate change initiatives. President Donald Trump has not directly commented on his administration's decision for U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to skip the G20 Summit in South Africa. However, the decision is part of a broader context of tensions between the U.S. and South Africa. Trump has been critical of South Africa's policies, particularly the land expropriation law, which he falsely claimed enables the government to seize land from ethnic minority Afrikaners without compensation. As the G20 Summit progresses, South Africa is positioned to play a crucial role in shaping global policies. Despite challenges and controversies, the summit offers a platform for addressing pressing global issues.
Arise South Africa, Arise.
