To win the 2024 elections we need to vote, and as a young new political party we need the majority of youth in South Africa to vote for us.
According to the IEC one can register to vote from the age of 16, but can only legally vote at 18.
Stats SA estimates that there were 20 608 891 people between the ages of 20-39 in 2022. Youth between the ages of 15-19 number 5 101 675.
YOUTH PARTICIPATION IN VOTING ELECTIONS IS CRUCIAL FOR SEVERAL REASONS:
Shaping their future: Young people have a stake in shaping the policies and decisions that will impact their lives for years to come
Representation and inclusivity: Youth make up a significant portion of the population, and their perspectives and experiences should be represented in the democratic process.
Influence on policies: By voting, young people can directly influence the policies and decisions made by governments.
Holding elected officials accountable: Voting is a way for young people to hold elected officials accountable for their promises and actions. By participating in elections, they have the power to reward or penalize politicians based on their performance and track record.
Strengthening democracy: Youth participation strengthens the democratic process by increasing voter turnout and fostering a more engaged and informed citizenry. When young people participate, it sends a message that they care about the issues and are actively invested in the democratic system.
Addressing youth-specific issues: Many issues directly affect young people, such as education, employment, climate change, and social justice.
